Become a Hawk.

Ready to wrestle? Connect with our coaches, complete your eligibility paperwork, and get cleared before stepping on the mat.

Clearance comes first. VVHS requires school approval in DragonFly before any preseason or in-season participation. For 2026–27, required paperwork must be dated April 1, 2026 or later.
Start here

Your path to the team

  1. Connect with a coach. Share your grade, school, and interest in boys or girls wrestling. Meet the staff.
  2. Confirm eligibility. Ask the athletic office about enrollment and any eighth-grade, charter-school, homeschool, or transfer requirements.
  3. Complete school clearance. Use the DragonFly checklist, physical packet, and student course links below. Wait for VVHS approval before participating.
  4. Stay connected. Use our parent and athlete communication channels for practice groups and daily updates.
Parent or guardian account

Get cleared in DragonFly

  1. Create or sign into a parent/guardian DragonFly account. Add your athlete and connect to Volcano Vista High School.
  2. Choose the current school year and wrestling program. Use the school’s parent guide for account setup and adding a child.
  3. Complete every assigned electronic form and medical section, including insurance and health questions. Enter two current parent/guardian emergency contacts.
  4. Complete consent, health-information disclosure, emergency information, APS participation consent, medical history, physical examination, medical eligibility, treatment consent, and concussion acknowledgments as assigned by VVHS.
  5. Upload the required physical documents and the athlete’s NFHS Concussion for Students certificate. A parent must complete the DragonFly electronic signatures; athlete signatures on the parent forms are rejected.
  6. Check the school’s review status and resolve missing or rejected items. Clearance requires VVHS administrative approval; paper submissions are not accepted for clearance.

Volcano Vista is accepting transfer students. Apply through APS. Placement depends on available space in your grade or program and district approval. The school’s enrollment and athletic offices can help your family plan the transition.

Your transfer, step by step

  1. Explore VVHS and check availability. Review the school’s academic programs and APS’s current school-capacity information.
Explore Volcano Vista · APS transfer guide and availability
  2. Submit a school transfer request. A parent or legal guardian uses APS ParentVUE to request Volcano Vista for the appropriate school year. APS accepts current-year requests throughout the year; the next-year application window opens in October.
    ParentVUE application instructions
  3. Watch for the APS decision. Continue attending your current assigned school until approval. Accept an approved offer within 10 calendar days, then contact VVHS promptly to complete registration.
  4. Prepare your enrollment documents. Gather address verification, birth certificate, immunization records, family and emergency contacts, prior-school information, and any applicable custody documents. Obtain withdrawal paperwork from your current APS school.
  5. Review athletic eligibility with the VVHS athletic director. Share your full school and athletic participation history. Ask whether NMAA’s first-transfer provision applies and how the sport’s practice-start deadline affects your eligibility.
  6. Complete medical clearance. Finish the physical, courses, and parent-managed DragonFly requirements below. Confirm school clearance before participation.

Families attending a school outside their neighborhood are responsible for transportation. APS normally approves only one school transfer per year, including accepted rollover transfers.

Athletic eligibility · NMAA · 2026–27

The first-transfer opportunity

Beginning in 2026–27, NMAA allows a student’s first transfer to an NMAA member school after the student’s open-enrollment choice without the usual varsity transfer penalty, when the applicable requirements are met.

NMAA’s first-transfer provision and APS’s one-transfer-per-school-year policy address different parts of the process. The VVHS athletic director reviews each student’s circumstances before confirming participation eligibility.

Eighth-grade athletes
LBJ & Tony Hillerman families

Eighth graders enrolled at Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Middle School or Tony Hillerman Middle School are eligible for high school participation at Volcano Vista under NMAA’s feeder-school rule. APS identifies both schools as VVHS feeder schools.

School enrollment, academic eligibility, required eighth-grade approvals, and medical clearance must also be completed. The athletic director submits the signed participation form; NMAA must confirm receipt before participation at the high school level.

Competing at any high school level uses the student’s open-enrollment choice. Families at other schools should ask the VVHS athletic office how feeder-school or attendance-zone rules apply.

Charter-school athletes
A path to school participation

Charter-school families have a pathway to public-school athletics under NMAA rules. The athletic office reviews your school’s NMAA membership, whether it offers wrestling, and your residence attendance zone.

If an NMAA-member charter school does not declare the sport, an otherwise eligible student may participate at the public school in their residence zone. Non-member charter-school students also have a participation pathway governed by Section X.

Start with the VVHS athletic office. Provide charter enrollment, residence documentation, grades, proof of age, and the other items requested in the VVHS packet. Complete the required school/parent/student conduct agreement, physical, insurance, and clearance requirements.

Charter-school statutes continue to apply under the new first-transfer rule; the athletic director must confirm your individual eligibility.

Homeschooled athletes
Stay connected through wrestling

APS confirms that homeschooled students can participate in eligible activities through their local public schools. NMAA’s homeschool rules provide access at the public school in the student’s residence attendance zone.

Provide current NMPED homeschool registration, proof of residence, course and grade records, and the supporting documents in the VVHS packet. The athletic director verifies academic eligibility and that the homeschool coursework exceeds half of the school’s regular class schedule.

NMAA permits up to three school-district activities per school year. Complete the required conduct agreement, physical, insurance, and DragonFly clearance. School-transfer and good-standing rules still apply where relevant.

Required student certificate

NFHS concussion education

Athletes must complete Concussion for Students through NFHS Learn. Create or sign into the athlete’s account, complete the course, save the completion certificate with the athlete’s name, and have a parent upload it in DragonFly.

Complete the concussion acknowledgment assigned in DragonFly as well. A course certificate and the signed acknowledgment are separate items.

NFHS Concussion for Students

Use the student course listed by VVHS. The coaching course “Concussion in Sports” is a different course.

Athlete education and clearance help

Life of an Athlete

NMAA offers this free course on how alcohol affects athletic performance. VVHS links it as an athlete resource. Complete it if assigned in your DragonFly checklist or by the school, and keep your certificate.

Life of an Athlete course

For eighth-grade, charter, homeschool, or clearance questions, contact the VVHS athletic office: Athletic Director Ron McMath, 505-890-0343, extension 37188.

VVHS official clearance requirements

Forms and guidance checked October 8, 2026. Follow the current VVHS requirements and the items assigned to your athlete in DragonFly.
